Kia Orana- Cook Island Language Week

Last week was Cook Island language week and the Caterpillars had an art project to complete- making a pare ei which is a Cook Island headband. On Monday the Caterpillars started by designing their headband after looking at some examples with our lovely teacher aide Miss Maddy. The next day the Caterpillars coloured in some flowers for decoration and cut them out. It was a team effort with everyone working together. On Thursday Mrs Mulipola helped the Caterpillars to decorate their ei with the paper flowers, lei flowers and feathers. The end result looked awesome! Check out our photos.

Waitakere Waste Management Trip

On Wednesday the Creative Caterpillars travelled to the Waitakere waste management site to learn more about recycling and rubbish. We went on a bus with the Dinosaurs and the Ducklings. We listened to Ron describe the life of a can. Then we got to look at some cool ways of reusing old things we don't need and turning them into something else. Sarah took us on a tour of the Waste site and we got to see the landfill and the plastic bales. We also met a cow made out of recycled bins that we named Chocky. The Caterpillars have really impressed Miss Martin with their learning. When they have finished their activities they use their initiative to practice things they know. Here is a video of Jesslyn and Dominic practicing their sounds and having lots of fun. They made this game up all by themselves!

Life education!

Life education Last week the Creative Caterpillars went to visit the life education van right here at school. We met Harold the giraffe who taught us about healthy eating and having a balanced diet. We learned about how eating healthy food gives us energy to learn. Check out our cool photos.

Star Writers!

Last week these writers were writing about their Mums for Mother's Day. They wrote some really great sentences and remembered to use punctuation. They took their work to show Mr Vasau, who game them a Principal's sticker award. This group of writers try extremely hard to write independently and Miss Martin is so proud of their effort in writing.

 Satriani wrote "My Mum likes to read books for me and my Mum she takes me for a walk to the pools. I love my Mum because she is pretty."

 Kaneisini wrote "My Mum makes dinner and she does the washing and she works hard. I love my Mum because my Mum is kind."

Dominic wrote "To Mum thank you for giving me a card. Thank you, Dominic. I love you Mum."

 Ului wrote "To Mum thank you Mum for cleaning with me. Thank you Mum for making my yummy lunch."

 Phaze wrote "To Mum thank you for helping me clean my room. I will listen and I love you."

Grace wrote "To Mum thank you for making cupcakes and thank you for washing the dishes Mum. I love you Mum."
